SOP on Wash Water Analysis
SOP on Wash Water Analysis
1.0 Purpose: This SOP describes a procedure for the analysis of wash water of equipment.
2.0 Scope: To ensure that the equipment is cleaned properly.
3.0 Responsibility: Quality Control Chemist to ensure that the procedure is followed.
4.0 Materials and Equipment:
pH meter
weighing balance
hot plate
stoppered test tube, 50ml
5.0 Procedure: Collect a minimum quantity of 500ml of wash water of equipment and carry out the following tests as follows
5.01 Visual Inspection – Take 20 ml of sample in a test tube and check visually. The liquid should be colorless and free from any visible particles.
5.02 pH – Take 50ml of the sample in a beaker immerse the electrodes of the pH meter in it and check the pH. It should be between 5.0 and 7.0 and comparable to the pH of purified water.
5.03 Total Dissolved Solids – Take 100ml of sample in a previously weighed beaker and evaporate to dryness on a hot plate. Cool the beaker to room temperature and weigh. The residue weight should not be more than 10mg in comparison to the value obtained by similarly treating 100 ml of purified water.
5.04 Presence of detergent – Take 10ml of sample in a 50ml stoppered test and shake vigorously up & down and check for any froth. The sample should not show any froth or the presence of detergent.
6.0 Reporting: Record the results in the analysis report.
