SOP on Operation of Dispensing / Sampling Booth

1.0 Purpose: This SOP describes the procedure for Sampling of raw materials.
2.0 Scope: This SOP applies to Quality Control / Stores staff.
3.0 Responsibility: Quality Control Chemist / Production Chemist to ensure that the procedure is followed.
4.0 Materials and Equipment: As required.
5.0 Operations of Dispensing / Sampling Booth
5.0.1. Switch on the mains.
5.0.2. Switch on the light button.
5.0.3. Ensure that area inside the Dispensing / Sampling Booth is cleaned. No spills of powder from previous weighings / samplings should be observed.
5.0.4. Switch on the air button. Check the pressure in magnehelic gauzes (Supply- 10mm water; Return- 1mm water).
5.0.5. Switch on the U.V.Lamp button.
5.0.6. After 10 minutes switch off the U.V. lamp button.
5.0.7. Start the dispensing / sampling operations.
5.1 Dispensing Operations
5.1.1. Ensure that the weighing balance is cleaned, free from any spills of powder from previous weighed materials.
5.1.2. Ensure that the weighing balance is calibrated.(Note: Whenever used first time on a particular day or whenever necessary).
5.1.3. Bring the previously cleaned material container inside the dispensing booth and open it from the upper side.
5.1.4. Place the container / polyethylene bag to be used for material weighing and note down the weight.
5.1.5. Open the polythene bag containing material. Transfer the material by a clean scoop in tared container. Weigh the exact quantities of material required for a particular batch.
5.1.6. Tie the polythene bag containing weighed quantity of material with a rubber band. Transfer the weighed quantities in another polythene bag and tie with a rubber band or plastic rope. Place in a clean SS container / basin.
5.1.7. Close the polythene bag from which the material has been transferred, and replace the lid in case of drum.
5.1.8. Label the dispensed material container with name of material, batch no., A.R. number, quantity and product for.
5.1.9. Transfer the dispensed quantity in the area specified for dispensed materials.
5.1.10. Re-place the original container at its place in racks.
5.1.11. Continue step nos. 3 to 10 for other weighings.
5.1.12. Switch off the air button.
5.1.13. Switch off the light button.
5.1.14. Switch off the mains.
5.2 Sampling Operations
5.2.1. Bring the previously cleaned material container from under test area inside the sampling booth and open it from the upper side.
5.2.2. Label the sampling container with name of sample, B.No. Sampled by, container number and date etc.
5.2.3. Open the polythene bag containing material.
5.2.4. Hold a clean sampling rod from upper side in straight position.  Press the sampling rod in container.  Rotate the inner side of sampling rod so that the material does not spill when taken out.
5.2.5. Seal the polythene bag by moving on a heating / sealing rod. Precaution should be taken while sealing sampled material so that it is not affected by heating.
5.2.6. Tie the polythene bag of original container with a plastic rope or rubber band.
5.2.7. Replace the sampled container to under test area.
5.2.8. Continue step nos. 1 to 7 for other materials.
5.2.9. Switch off the air button.
5.2.10. Switch off the light button.
5.2.11. Switch off the mains.
5.3 Precautions:
5.3.1. Always use dry and clean dispensing / sampling tools / equipment.
5.3.2. Do not use same dispensing / sampling tool / equipment for different materials.
5.3.3. Always ensure any spills inside the dispensing / sampling booth are cleaned immediately.
5.3.4. Before switching off, ensure no material is left inside the equipment.
5.3.5. Ensure all the entries are made in log book for usage of dispensing / sampling booth.
