SOP on Safety 
1.0 Purpose: This SOP describes the guidelines for the general safety to be observed in the factory.
2.0 Scope: This SOP applies to all the personnel working in the production unit and quality control laboratory. 
3.0 Responsibility:  Senior Production Chemist to ensure that the procedure is followed.
4.0 Materials and Equipment: None
5.0 Procedure: Maintaining a safe working environment is a primary concern for all personnel working in the production and quality control laboratory. Safety depends on the maintenance of technical standards and laboratory discipline. Safety instructions should be given to staff. General rules for safe working include:
5.01. Prohibition of smoking, eating, and drinking in the laboratory or manufacturing area.
5.02 Use of laboratory coats.
5.03 Familiarity with the use of fire fighting equipment including fire extinguishers and gas masks.
5.04 Adequate insulation and spark proofing of electrical wiring and equipment.
5.05 Full labeling of all containers of chemicals, including prominent warnings (e.g. Poison, flammable) whenever appropriate.
5.06 Observation of safety rules in handling cylinders of compressed gases and familiarity with their colour identification codes.
5.07 Avoidance of solitary work in the laboratory.
5.07 Provision of first-aid materials and instruction in first-aid techniques, emergency care, and use of antidotes.
5.08 Protective clothes should be available, including goggles, masks and gloves.
5.09 Staff must be instructed in the safe disposal of corrosive or dangerous products by neutralization or deactivation.
