SOP on Handling of Electronic Weighing Balance
1.0 Purpose: This SOP describes the procedure for handling of an electronic weighing balance.
2.0 Scope: This SOP applies to all the electronic weighing balances used for IPQC or analytical work.
3.0 Responsibility: It is the responsibility of all the Quality Control Chemists / Production Chemists / Production Supervisors to ensure that the procedure is followed.
4.0 Materials and Equipment: As required.
5.0 Procedure:
5.1 Ensure that the weighing balance is properly connected to the power supply.
5.2 Close the glass windows properly.
5.3 Switch ON the main.
5.4 Check the spirit level of weighing balance and adjust if necessary.
5.5 Check zero on weighing scale.
5.6 Weigh the samples as follows –
5.6.1 For Powders
a. Place a clean butter paper on balance platform and weigh.
b. Transfer a quantity of powder to be weighed on paper with spatula.
c. Note down the weight and transfer the weighed quantity in a vessel
d. Again note down the weight and difference in two weights is the net weight of powder.
5.6.2 For Tablets / Capsules
a. Place 20 tablets or capsules on the platform of balance.
b. Note down the weight.
c. Remove the tablets or capsules.
d. For weight variation, individually keep the tablet or capsule and each time note down the weight.
