SOP on Personnel Entry to Microbiology Room 

1.0 Purpose: This SOP describe a procedure for precautions to be taken at the time of entering in microbiology room.
2.0 Scope: Hygienic behaviour maintains the aseptic area clean and keep the microbial load to minimum in the room. 
3.0 Responsibility: Quality Control Microbiologist to ensure that the procedure is followed.
4.0 Materials and Equipment: 
Sterile garments – Coat, mask, disposable cap, gloves
5.0 Procedure:

5.1 Staff should not move about unnecessarily in microbiology room because movement increases bacterial shedding.
5.2 Aseptic area garments should be stored and handled after cleaning and sterilizing in such a manner as to minimise microbial contamination.
5.3 Nails of persons working in the microbiology room should be regularly trimmed.
5.4 Street shoes to be changed each time a person enters the aseptic room.
5.5 The persons should wash hands thoroughly with a disinfectant scrub before wearing sterile gloves.
5.6 The persons should wear a sterile coat, mask and disposable cap.
5.7 The number of persons working in aseptic area should be kept to minimum practicable.
