SOP on Washing of Uniforms / Clothes
(Beta Lactam Section)
1.0 Purpose: This SOP describes a procedure for washing of uniforms/clothes used during manufacture of drug formulations.
2.0 Scope: This SOP is applicable to all uniforms/clothes used during manufacture of drug formulations.
3.0 Responsibility: Production Supervisor to ensure that the procedure is followed.

4.0 Materials and Equipment: 
• Detergent / soap solution
5.0 Procedure:
5.1 Daily at the end of shift, or acceptable time intervals collect all the used uniforms / clothes in a closed plastic container.
5.2 Carry all used uniforms/clothes to laundry.
5.3 Soak all used uniforms/clothes in a plastic container containing detergent / soap solution and allow to remain soaked for 30 minutes.
5.4 Take out the garments one by one and squeeze them. Collect every time water after squeezing garments in same container in which they were soaked.
5.5 Transfer all squeezed garments to another container containing hot tap water and allow to remain soaked for 30 minutes.
5.6 Take out all garments and squeeze them. Collect every time water after squeezing garments in same container in which they were soaked.
5.7 Again wash the squeezed garments by soaking in tap water.
5.8 Test wash water for active ingredient(s) and if found negative, dry the uniforms/clothes in air.(* If positive, wash again by soaking in tap water, till wash water is negative for active ingredients)
5.9 Treat wash water in effluent treatment plant and neutralize before drain.
