Operation and Calibration of Digimatic Vernier Calliper

PURPOSE:

To provide the procedure for operation and calibration of Digimatic Vernier Calliper. This instrument operating procedure also provides precautions to be taken and preliminary checks to be performed during operation.

SCOPE:

Applicable to MITUTOYO Digimatic Vernier Calliper of Quality Control department.

DEFINITIONS:

RESPONSIBILITY:

Quality Control Chemists is responsible for the implementation of this Instrument Operating Procedures.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

Manager Quality control is accountable for implementation and compliance of this Instrument Operating procedure.

PROCEDURE:

1.0 PRELIMINARY CHECK:

1.1 Ensure that the system is clean and free from dust. If not clean with a soft duster

2.0 BASIC OPERATION:

2.1 Set the jaws together without leaving any space between both the jaws.

2.2 Switch on the Calliper and wait for 10 – 15 seconds.

2.3 Ensure that the reading on display is zero.

2.4 Set the unit of measurement in mm / inch using the button provided on the Calliper.

2.5 Using screws provided in the bottom of the Calliper to hold sample / material to be tested between the jaws and note down the reading in Test Data Sheet / Protocol.

2.6 After the analysis switch “OFF” the Calliper.

3.0 PRECAUTIONS:

3.1 Let the Calliper be idle for few seconds after the switching it “ON”, as the Calliper requires start-up time to stabilize.

3.2 Ensure that no scratches on the screen / scale.

3.3 Apply nominal force while handling the Calliper.

3.4 Ensure that Calliper is placed back in the box after use.

CALIBRATION PROTOCOL:

Calibration Frequency:  Monthly

Calibrate the Calliper by using the following standard thickness gauges i.e. 0.10, 0.20, 0.25, 0.30, 0.40, 0.50, 0.60, 0.70, 0.80, 0.90 and 1.0mm respectively and note down the reading in test data sheet.

Acceptance Criteria:  Observed reading should not vary by more than + 0.02mm
