SOP FOR PROCUREMENT, STORAGE AND USAGE OF THE THERMOMETER

SOP FOR
PROCUREMENT, STORAGE AND USAGE OF THE THERMOMETER

1.0 OBJECTIVE

1.1 To
lay down a standard procedure for procurement,
storage and usage of the thermometer.

2.0 SCOPE

2.1 This procedure is applicable for
procurement, storage and usage of the thermometer in
Quality
Control Laboratory.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY

3.1 Officer and above Quality Control.

4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY

4.1 Head -Quality Control.

5.0 PROCEDURE

5.1 Procurement
and handling of Thermometers

5.1.1 Procure the thermometers from standard agencies along with
the calibration certificate traceable to NIST.

5.1.2 On
receipt of thermometers a check shall be carried out of continuity of the
mercury column, visibility of the scale, free from transportation damages &
certificate for its adequacy.

Remove
from its original container carefully.

5.1.3 Allot
the Code Number for each thermometer after receipt as specified below

Example:
STH – 01- 06

Where STH
– Standard Thermometers

               01 – Serial
Number and

               06 – Year

5.1.4 Maintain
a register for the inventory control of thermometers.

5.1.5 Record
the below specified information as per the format for “Inventory Control
Register of Thermometers”
.

5.1.6 Hold the
thermometer from its top.

5.1.7 Dip
its mercury part into the liquid/solvent /sample, temperature of which is to be
measure under specified condition if any.

5.1.8 Record
the temperature by observing the height of mercury on the scale.

5.2 Storage
of Thermometers

5.2.1 Store the thermometers, when not in use, in its original
container tightly closed in the designated place.

5.2.2 The
calibration certificates are filed and preserved for a period of one year or
till its validity.

5.3 Usage
of thermometer

5.3.1 Thermometers
are used for measuring the temperature of samples or for external Measurement/
Calibration of equipment.

5.3.2 Thermometers
of the following range are generally used.

(a) – 10
to 500 C

(b) – 10
to 1500 C

(c) – 10
to  2200 C

(d) – 10
to 3600 C
