SOP on Cleaning of Processing Equipment
1. Objective: To describe the cleaning procedure for general equipment
2. Scope: To ensure that the equipment is clean and free from any starting materials of the previous batch or product residues.
3. Responsibility:
3.1 It is the responsibility of the operating staff to clean the equipment.
3.2 Production Chemist to ensure that procedure is followed.
4. Materials & Equipment :
4.1 Cleaning agent: Teepol or Liquid Soap.
4.2 Mops/nylon brush/lint-free cloth
4.3 SS Jug
5. General Procedure
5.1 All equipment is maintained cleanly and hygienically.
5.2 All equipment is checked for cleanliness before use.
5.3 After equipment is cleaned, they are tagged “Clean”/ Ready for use. Used equipment is tagged “To be cleaned”. Batch identification labels are not removed from the tanks until the tanks are cleaned.
5.4 Records are maintained in logbooks for cleaning of the major equipment. The records include:
(a) Date
(b) Product
(c) Lot number
(d) Equipment number
(e) Cleaned by
(f) Checked by
(g) Remarks
5.5 After a batch is processed, the empty equipment is cleaned with tap water, then with purified water, and air dried completely.
5.6 All mixers are cleaned after use. The mixing blade where practicable is removed and cleaned with hot water, then with purified water and air dried or dried completely with a clean and lint-free cloth.
5.7 Utensils are cleaned with tap water, then purified water and air dried or dried with a clean and lint-free absorbent.
5.8 All the connecting tubes are cleaned with hot water, then purified water and air dried.
5.9 All clean equipment and utensils are protected from accumulating dust in storage, either by a cover by a polythene bag or by being placed in a drawer or cabinet.
