SOP on Sanitation
1.0 Purpose: This document describes detailed instructions for the cleaning & sanitation and removal of dust, dirt & other waste materials from manufacturing / warehouse area.
2.0 Scope: This SOP applies to the cleaning of floors, walls, ceilings and working benches of production area, stores and quality control laboratory.
3.0 Responsibility: 
3.1 Production operating staff / cleaning staff for cleaning & sanitation.
3.2 Production /Quality Control chemist to ensure that the specified procedure is followed.
4.0 Materials and Equipment: 
  • Vacuum cleaner / dry & damp mop / Colin
  • Detergent – Liquid soap solution (3%v/v ) / Teepol solution (0.1%v/v)
  • Disinfectant – 2.5% w/v Chlorhexidine Gluconate Solution  or 2% w/v Benzalkonium Chloride Solution
5.0 Procedure:
5.1.0 Floors (Frequency – Daily, two times – morning & evening) – 
5.1.1 Daily in the morning and afternoon  clean  the floor thoroughly with the help of a nylon brush / vacuum cleaner. Cleaning operations may be performed more often for specific need.
5.1.2 Then the entire working area is cleaned by wet mop soaked in 3% v/v solution of liquid soap and squeezed.
5.1.3 Use alternatively 2.5%w/v solution of Chlorhexidine Gluconate or 2.0% w/v solution of Benzalkonium Chloride 
5.2.0 Working benches (Frequency – Daily, morning & product changeover) –  
5.2.1 Daily all working benches are cleaned with a wet mop soaked in 3% v/v solution of liquid soap  or 0.1%v/v Teepol and squeezed.
5.2.2 Use alternatively 2.5%w/v solution of Chlorhexidine Gluconate and 2.0% w/v solution of Benzalkonium Chloride
5.3.0 Walls / Aluminium Partitions (Frequency–Once Daily or whenever required) 
5.3.1 All the walls are cleaned with the help of a vacuum cleaner and  / or damp mop.
5.3.2 For stains which do not get cleaned with wet mop, use detergent solution to clean.
5.4.0 Ceilings ( Frequency – Once in a week or whenever required) –  
5.4.1 All the ceilings are cleaned with the help of a damp mop / dry lint free cloth.
5.4.2 All the ceilings are sprayed alternatively with 2.5%w/v solution of Chlorhexidine Gluconate and 2.0% w/v solution of Benzalkonium Chloride 
5.5.0 Switches and Tube Light Fixtures (Frequency – Once in 15 days) – 
5.5.1 Switch off electrical supply before starting the cleaning operations.
5.5.2 Clean switches and light fixtures with the help of a vacuum cleaner and clean dry lint free cloth. Cleaning may be required more often in specific cases.
5.6.0 Air handling units / Air-conditioner ducts (Frequency – Once in 15 days) – 
5.6.1 Switch off electrical supply before starting the cleaning operations.
5.6.2 Clean air handling units / air-conditioner ducts with the help of a vacuum cleaner and clean dry lint free cloth. 
5.6.3 Cleaning may be required more often in specific cases.
5.7.0 Cross Over Bench (Frequency – Once Daily) – 
5.7.1 Daily in the morning clean the cross over bench with a dry / wet mop soaked in hot water.
5.8.0 Glasses of Doors & Windows (Frequency –Once in  a week) – 
5.8.1 Clean all the glasses of doors and windows first with a dry lint free cloth  and then using colin solution.
5.9.0 Pipe lines (Frequency – Once  a month) – 
5.9.1 Clean all the pipe lines from outside using wet and dry lint free cloth .
6.0 Reporting: Record the date, time, name of the person responsible for cleaning and the name of the person responsible for supervision in the cleaning log book.
